He was bent down, he was having trouble breathing, he needed urgent help.”

After seeing the passengers in the vehicle, the doctor rushed to his vehicle to call for help and get first aid supplies. Mailliez, who had no idea who the woman he was helping was, put the breathing bag in his car on Diana;
“She was unconscious. Her breathing bag felt a little better, but she didn’t say anything.”

The French doctor later learned, along with the rest of the world, that the woman he had helped at the crash site was Princess Diana.

“I know it’s surprising, but I didn’t recognize Princess Diana. I was helping her in the backseat, I realized she was beautiful, but I was so focused on saving her life that I didn’t have time to think about who this woman was.
Someone behind me told me that the victims spoke English. I started speaking English right away. I tried to comfort him by telling him that I was a doctor and called an ambulance.”
