Presidential Communications Department, It started to prepare the “Disinformation Bulletin” at a time when the bill, which was called the “disinformation law” but was described as a censorship regulation by journalist organizations, was being discussed in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. It was learned that the bulletin was prepared weekly by the Center for Combating Disinformation, established under the Directorate of Communications, and distributed to certain journalists and institutions via e-mail and WhatsApp groups. Head of the center, İdris Kardaş said, “We started to publish this bulletin so that the public can understand which news is true.”

The first action of the center was to issue the Disinformation Bulletin. The first issue of the bulletin included some news published between 1-8 October. In addition to the news listed under the heading “Fake news of the week”, “This is fake news, share the truth” graphic is placed.

Diyanet and natural gas

In the first issue of the bulletin, there were news that Diyanet earned interest from its revenues, that it was short of natural gas tanks, that the Turkish Coast Guard pushed immigrants to Greece using violence, that PVC windows were installed in the historical mosque. It was stated that the news was false and the information was transferred. At the end of the bulletin, the “Presidential Communications Directorate Broadcast” logo was also placed.

Kardaş: We will issue it weekly

Speaking to T24, Kardaş stated that the bulletin is planned to be published on a weekly basis and said that their aim is to make the public aware of fake news. Asked why the bulletin was not published on the website and distributed differently, Kardaş replied, “We did not find it necessary to publish it on the website. We distribute it through Mail and Whatsapp groups”.

It was learned that the bulletin was sent only to certain media organs and journalists.

Altun made a statement about the bulletin in February 2021 and stated that the platform is in the testing phase.
