Netflix and HBO’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ projects revealed

WALL – Following the release of Amazon’s ‘Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ series, it was revealed that the Tolkien family was presented with multiple ‘Lord of the Rings’ adaptations, including HBO and Netflix.

According to the news of Lost Dock from The Hollywood Reporter, The project that HBO submitted to the Tolkien Foundation for the adaptation idea was based on the Third Age of Middle-earth. However, this was not welcomed by the family, as it would mean remaking the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Another project was stated to be a Shakespearean Middle-earth interpretation presented by Oscar-winning filmmaker Anthony McCarten.

MARVEL-LIKE MASTER OF THE RINGS IDEA FROM NETFLIX

It was claimed that Netflix wanted to offer a different perspective to Middle-earth. The digital platform shared the solo series projects of Aragorn, Gimli and Gandalf with the Tolkien Foundation by announcing Marvel’s Cinematic Universe-like plan to Tolkien Estate, which has been making since 2008, but the family reacted to this project.

‘RINGS OF POWER WAS NOT MY FAVORITE CHOICE’

“Rings of Power”, which JD Payne and Patrick McKey produced, was the series chosen among other projects. “The scenarios of the people we fought with met expectations better on paper. We weren’t a favorite choice among them,” said producer McKay.

‘Rings of Power’, brought to the screen by Amazon with a huge budget, takes place hundreds of years before the events of ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’. The series focuses on the Second Age of Middle-earth.
