671 vacancies
Gültekin stated that about 300 quotas were left vacant last year and this number increased to 600 this year.
“When we look at the medical faculties, we see that the quotas were not filled last year, either. Last year, 17,500 quotas were reserved in medicine, and approximately 17,200 quotas were filled. So there was about 300 spaces.
When we look at this year’s data, we see that there are 671 vacancies in medicine. It’s almost doubled. This should not be forgotten. If you ask how many faculties in medicine, it is around 120. So how many universities? 209. There is a medical school in one of the two universities, this is normal when there are so many openings and students are accepted.”
1 in 10 candidates settle into medicine
Expressing that the number of students enrolled in all numerical score types is 200 thousand, Gültekin stated that 17 thousand of them were admitted to the medical faculty and said, “You take 1 out of every 10 candidates to the medical faculty. After all, this is quite normal.
13 thousand state and 4 thousand foundation
There is one more thing and that is economic problems. When we look at the vacant quotas in medicine, we come across mostly foundation-based universities in the TRNC. There are not many vacancies in government quotas. The distribution of state and foundations in the quotas is predominantly 13 thousand state and 4 thousand foundations and TRNC.” said
Gültekin stated that the number of faculties increased outside the plan, the number of students was high, and the preservation of quality was a question mark, adding, “It has to be difficult to put the brakes on and open a faculty.”
