In the last 8 years, the number of investigations into insulting the president has reached 200 thousand: 305 child cases

According to the Ministry of Justice data, the number of defamation cases against the president, which was 110 in 2014, increased to 9,168 in 2021. While only one child under 18 was prosecuted in 2014, that number rose to 305 in 2021. While the number of investigations opened on charges of insulting the president in the last eight years has been based on 200,000, the number of cases has reached 44,675.

CRIMINAL DECISION IN 4 THOUSAND 112 CASES

According to the announced data, while 682 investigations were opened on charges of insulting the president in 2014, this number jumped to 33 thousand 973 in 2021. While the number of cases opened for this crime was 110 in 2014, it was 9 thousand 168 in 2021. The number of children under the age of 18 who were prosecuted in 2014 increased from 1 to 305 in 2021. Of these children, 101 were between the ages of 12-14 and 204 were between the ages of 15-17. In 2021, a total of 4,112 cases were convicted for this crime, 1,239 of which were prison sentences. While the number of children under the age of 18 who were sentenced was 22, the decision for two of these children was in the direction of imprisonment. Judicial and administrative fines were also imposed on 285 people, including 19 children under the age of 18.

INCREASED AFTER 2018

The number of investigations and lawsuits since 2018, when the presidential government system was introduced, drew attention. In the last four years, a total of 127,451 investigations opened on charges of insulting the president were examined. The number of lawsuits filed in the last four years was 33 thousand 209, with 4 thousand 880 in 2018, 11 thousand 371 in 2019, 7 thousand 790 in 2020 and 9 thousand 168 in 2021. Since 2014, the number of investigations for the same crime has been recorded as 194,142, and the number of lawsuits filed as 44,675. The number of convictions given in the last eight years has increased to 16,993. Of these, 4,864 were imprisoned.
