‘Fiona’ alarm: 2/3 of the country is plunged into darkness

Hurricane Fiona, which landed at category 1 level yesterday in Puerto Rico, an island country in the Caribbean, caused floods and landslides.

2 out of 3 BURIED IN DARK

Due to the hurricane, electricity was cut in a large part of the country, while water networks were disabled in many cities.

It was stated that 3 million 200 thousand people were deprived of electricity service as a result of the power cut in 2/3 of the country, and it was stated that clean water service could not be provided in many cities due to the overflowing rivers affecting the water treatment facilities.

While Hurricane Fiona was effective with heavy rains and winds reaching 145 kilometers per hour in Puerto Rico, 1,300 people were evacuated from their homes as a result of floods and landslides. It has been reported that many main access roads have been flooded across the country, some bridges have been destroyed and many trees have been knocked down.

While patients were transferred due to a power outage and generator failure in a cancer hospital in the capital San Juan, 1 person died as a result of the explosion of the generator in the city of Arecibo, located in the north of the country. In the statement made by the electricity distribution company Luma, it was stated that 10 percent of the subscribers affected by the outage were restored and that electricity service would not be provided to other subscribers for a few more days.
