‘Fiona’ alarm: 2/3 of the country is plunged into darkness

While Hurricane Fiona was effective with heavy rains and winds reaching 145 kilometers per hour in Puerto Rico, 1,300 people were evacuated from their homes as a result of floods and landslides. It has been reported that many main access roads have been flooded across the country, some bridges have been destroyed and many trees have been knocked down.

1 PEOPLE KILLED BY GENERATOR EXPLOSION

While patients were transferred due to a power outage and generator failure in a cancer hospital in the capital San Juan, 1 person died as a result of the explosion of the generator in the city of Arecibo, located in the north of the country. In the statement made by the electricity distribution company Luma, it was stated that 10 percent of the subscribers affected by the outage were restored and that electricity service would not be provided to other subscribers for a few more days.

Whirlwind advances into the Dominican Republic

It was reported that Hurricane Fiona advanced to the Dominican Republic after Puerto Rico.

The US National Hurricane Center announced that Hurricane Fiona will increase its strength even further, reaching category 3 on Wednesday.
