Retirees, who have been reduced to “needy” with a monthly salary of 3 thousand 500 liras below the hunger limit, are faced with a “blocking” barrier as they wander from bank to bank in order to receive more promotions.
Banks citing the loans and enforcement files as a reason prevent the pensioner from moving his salary to another bank by blocking them. The issue was also brought to the agenda of the Parliament.
The minimum pension was 3 thousand 500 liras, and the pension was well below the hunger limit of 6 thousand 840 liras. Many retirees work to survive. The hope of the retirees in the last days is the promotions given by the private banks that entered the race in return for carrying their salaries. Retirees form long queues in front of banks in order to receive promotions up to 7-8 thousand liras. While the banks are competing on the one hand, various conditions are put forward, such as issuing automatic payment orders for payments such as electricity and water, and closing the loan debts in other banks.
Fikri Kalender, General Secretary of the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions (DİSK) Retired-Sen, “They made the retirees beggars. They take the pensioner from bank to bank. People aged 70-80 are waiting in line in front of banks. The government should be ashamed of it. Do these happen in the social state? The state protects the pensioner” said.
SUBJECT MOVED TO PARLIAMENT
Burhanettin Bulut, a member of the Labor and Social Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, and CHP Adana Deputy, brought the issue to the agenda of the Assembly with a parliamentary question. Bulut, in the motion that the Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati gave to answer, “Retirement pensions cannot be seized except for the receivables of SSI and alimony debts” He drew attention to the fact that the money deposited in the bank accounts of the citizens was seized despite the provision. Bulut asked Nabati the following questions:
“How many retired citizens’ promotions have been seized, how many citizens have filed a return lawsuit, are there public banks among the banks, have any sanctions been imposed on banks by your ministry, do you have any work to increase the promotion application every year at least as much as the inflation increase”
