The first meeting of the leaders of the European Political Community will be held just before the EU Leaders’ Summit to be held on 6-7 October in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, the EU term president. In addition to 27 EU members, 17 countries are invited to the meeting.
An EU official announced that invitations have been sent to countries other than EU members for the meeting to be held on 6 October. Invitation letters were signed by Charles Michel, President of the European Council, and Petr Fiala, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, the EU term president.
17 COUNTRIES WERE INVITED BEYOND TURKEY
In addition to Turkey, the countries to which invitations were sent were Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Iceland, Kosovo, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland, Ukraine and England.
The EU administration aims to create a platform for the political coordination of the countries in the European continent with the European Political Community, the idea of which was put forward by French President Emmanuel Macron.
It is aimed to address common interests by strengthening political dialogue and cooperation, thereby increasing security, stability and prosperity in Europe.
Emphasizing that it will not be an alternative to the EU and will not become a new international organization, the European Political Community is requested to meet once or twice a year at the level of leaders.
According to the information provided by the EU official, no official statement or official decisions are expected at the end of the first meeting to be held in Prague on 6 October.
At the first meeting in Prague, the leaders will meet at noon. Roundtables will then be held and leaders will be invited to participate. Roundtable meetings are planned to be organized on the topics of peace and security, energy and climate, economic situation, migration and transportation.
The leaders are also expected to hold bilateral meetings. It is envisaged that a closing meeting will be held with dinner after the meetings and discussions.
