This winter, the price of tomatoes will reach 50 liras.

WALL – According to the official data of the Turkish Statistical Institute, producer inflation was 144.6 percent as of July, while the prices of basic food products continue to increase in parallel. While the prices of vegetables and fruits burn in the summer months, the prices are expected to double in the winter months.

Müslüm Yanmaz, President of the Greenhouse Investors and Producers Association (Sera-Bir), who draws attention to producer inflation, stated that producer sales prices doubled in an environment where costs increased three times last season, and said, “With an energy cost that increased by 238 percent and a fertilizer cost that increased by 250 percent, we This year, we should not sell tomatoes under 50 TL. I mean it so clearly. Between December and April, there are no tomatoes in the world. We’ve been doing this for 30 years. When winter comes, everyone will stand up because of tomato prices. Tomato price will be 50 TL,” he said.

Stating that the producers from Europe, especially the Netherlands, want to do contract farming with them, Yanmaz said, “They say that we should close the whole season at 2 euros per kilogram. Let’s close at 2 euros means that this tomato will be 50-60 TL.” Yanmaz, who was a guest of the Agriculture-Analysis program at Bloomberg HT, stated that they give 10-15 percent of the products they produce to the domestic market, and that they export 85-90 percent.
