The Japanese brand cloned a car from France! New Mitsubishi ASX introduced – Auto News

Mitsubishi renewed the ASX, which was one of its best-selling models in Turkey for a while.

As a result of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, the vehicle produced on the basis of Renault Captur will go on sale in Europe in March 2023.

The compact SUV, which has no remarkable difference with Captur except for the logo, has taken all design elements directly from Captur, except for the Mitsubishi logo on the steering wheel, in its interior.

RENAULT DID NOT NEED TO REMOVE THE LOGO

On the other hand, the Japanese brand did not feel the need to hide that it took all the features it has from Captur. So much so that the Renault logo is located in the vehicle image on the digital dashboard of the car, which is also taken from Captur.

However, there is a possibility that the logo in question will change with a software update when the car will start selling.

Like all its features, the power units are the same as the Captur, and gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines will serve in the ASX.

The vehicle, which will be sold with a 1-liter gasoline three-cylinder engine at the entry level, will be offered with a 1.3-liter gasoline four-cylinder engine and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

In the hybrid version, the 1.6-liter gasoline engine and 2 electric motors serve. In this power unit, a 1.3 kWh battery powers the engine, while a 10.5 kWh battery works in the plug-in hybrid version.

According to the statement, the production address of the car will be the same as Captur, and it will be Renault’s Spanish factory.

NEW ROADMAP DETERMINED IN 2020

In 2020, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance had switched to a new cooperation model that would support competition and profitability.

In the statement made at that time, it was noted that alliance partners would benefit from the “leader-follower” principle in order to strengthen efficiency and competitiveness in their products and technologies.

In line with the plan, it is aimed that each of the members work to increase the competitiveness of the partners by leading the regions where they have strong strategic trump cards.

While the alliance’s new strategy is expected to reduce the model investment cost by up to 40 percent,
Under the plan, Nissan in China, North America and Japan, Renault in Europe, Russia, South America and North Africa, and Mitsubishi in ASEAN and Oceania will be the leaders in the alliance.

According to the statement, the renewal of the C-SUV segment of the alliance will be led by Nissan, while the renewal of the B-SUV segment in Europe will be led by Renault.

The new roadmap of the triple alliance also affected Turkey. In this context, Mitsubishi’s Colt model will be produced at Oyak-Renault factories in Bursa and exported to Europe. Colt, which will share the same platform and power units with Renault Clio, will be produced in Turkey and sent to Europe in 2023.

As a result, Mitsubishi’s cloning of the new ASX from Renault Captur can be considered as a result of the alliance’s new strategy.
