After the violent explosion in Lebanon’s Beirut Port on August 4, 2020, fires have been breaking out in the debris and heavily damaged grain silos for about 2 months.

According to the news of İHA; Due to the ongoing fires, the last 8 blocks in the northern part of the grain silo were destroyed in the morning. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati met with Lebanese Transport Minister Ali Hamiye to discuss the situation of the grain silo. During the meeting, Mikati stated that the surviving parts of the silo in the Beirut Port, whose northern part was completely destroyed, will be preserved as monuments.

More than 200 people were killed and more than 6,000 injured.

On the other hand, in April, it was decided to demolish the silos in question. However, the decision was suspended upon the objection of the relatives of those who lost their lives in the explosion 2 years ago. In the disaster that occurred as a result of the explosion of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate in the port of Beirut on August 4, 2020, more than 200 people lost their lives, more than 6 thousand people were injured and more than 300 thousand people were left homeless.
