However, players who earn millions have to pay taxes on this income.

According to the regulation made on May 27, 2020; In the professional footballer contracts signed after November 1, 2019, it was obligatory to pay 20 percent tax to the club and 20 percent tax to the players on gross earnings exceeding 600 thousand TL.

However, despite the expiry of the declaration period on March 31, 2021, only 15 football players from the Super League and only 1 football player from the TFF 1st League submitted their declarations. The Ministry of Treasury and Finance has started an investigation about the players who did not take the necessary actions despite the expiry of the declaration period.

According to the news of the evening; The number of football players who played in the Super League, which has been taxed so far, has reached 40. It was learned that 7 of them were foreigners and the other 33 were locals. Among the players subject to tax inspection, there are also players who played in the Super League in the said period, then left and went abroad.

A process has also been initiated for the collection of tax obligations that the players who left the country have not fulfilled. Although tax collection takes time due to international agreements, necessary payments can be received from players abroad.

Foreigners are more meticulous

It is estimated that the amount that the aforementioned football players have to pay together with the original tax, tax loss and default interest is around 40 million TL.

This review covers 2020. For those who do not fulfill their legal obligations within the declaration period, which expires in March 2021, the proceedings are expected to be made later.
