Scottish Autonomous Administration Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon said in her speech at the party convention that they are the “independence generation”.

Nicola Sturgeon, leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP), said independence is essential for Scotland.

Speaking at the party congress held in Aberdeen, an important port city of Scotland, Sturgeon said, “I sincerely believe that we will be the first in the modern world to live in an independent Scotland.”

Sturgeon stated that it would be more beneficial for the economy to leave the United Kingdom due to the rapidly increasing inflation and livelihood crisis, and that if they were independent, the oil revenue would be used to establish an investment fund of 20 billion pounds.

The Scottish politician, targeting the government in London, said independence did not offer a “miraculous cure” for the economy, but was necessary “to escape the control and mismanagement of Westminster”.

Sturgeon also reiterated that independence is necessary to re-member the EU.

“Clocked behind the party leader”

The BBC’s Scotland political correspondent Philip Sim commented that Sturgeon’s speech and the reactions to it were a sign that the SNP was clamped behind its leader and believed that independence would come.

He stated that Sturgeon’s speech acted as a catalyst that energized the party.

The Supreme Court, the UK’s highest judicial authority, is starting its first session this week when it will decide whether to hold an independence referendum in Scotland.

Sturgeon announced that if the court decides in favor of the Scottish parliament, the independence referendum will be held on 19 October 2023.
