On the other hand, the Kyiv administration warned that Russian forces could launch attacks on Ukraine on Ukraine’s 31st Independence Day. Public celebrations, meetings and demonstrations with broad participation were banned in Kiev on 22-25 August, fearing that Russian forces might launch an attack.

Despite warnings of a possible Russian attack, large numbers of Ukrainians came to Kiev’s Kreschatik Street, where Russian battleships captured in the war were exhibited.
