Reuters: $780 million transferred from South Korea to the Central Bank of Turkey

It was reported that South Korea transferred 780 million dollars to the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) at the end of September within the scope of the swap agreement with Turkey.

According to Reuters news, Azerbaijan’s SOCAR company has an account worth 1 billion euros at the Central Bank of Turkey, while another unnamed central bank has an account worth approximately 2 billion dollars.

It is stated that Russia’s Rosatom company has provided local banks with approximately $5 billion in resources for the construction of the nuclear power plant in Turkey, and the nearly $6.1 billion increase seen in the Central Bank’s reserves in recent months is due to this.

President Erdogan, regarding central bank reserves, said, “Many friendly countries give their support. Our borrowing from them makes us stronger as the Central Bank.”

Turkey wants to make a SWAP agreement with Saudi Arabia, similar to the SWAP agreement it made with the United Arab Emirates earlier this year. Recently, Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nabati met with Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

In addition to South Korea, Turkey also has swap agreements with China, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates for approximately $30 billion in local currency.

It was claimed that Turkey was in talks with Malaysia, Russia, England and other countries in Asia for SWAP agreements and would sign the first agreement with Azerbaijan.
