EU accuses Putin of using energy as a weapon

President of the European Union (EU) Commission Ursula von der Leyenshared about the energy crisis in Europe from his social media account.

“Putin uses energy as a weapon by cutting off supply and manipulating our energy markets,” von der Leyen said, noting that Putin would fail and Europe would prevail.

Von der Leyen pointed out that the EU Commission has prepared various proposals to protect poor households and businesses against high energy prices, and their proposals include reducing electricity demand at peak times, imposing a ceiling price on natural gas coming from Russia via pipeline, and consumers and consumers with revenues from the energy sector. He stated that it will aim to support businesses and provide assistance to electricity producers who are experiencing liquidity problems due to fluctuations.

Gas prices rose sharply in Europe after Russia announced that it had indefinitely stopped the flow of natural gas through the Nord Stream pipeline to Europe.

The energy ministers of the EU member states will hold an extraordinary meeting in Brussels on September 9 to determine the steps to be taken against the rapidly increasing electricity and natural gas prices.
