Erasmus students are seeking asylum, don’t choose risky ones

WALL – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, EU Presidency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, EU Foreign Relations Department and the National Agency warned the Ministry of National Education about the students and teachers leaving the project groups in an official letter on the “Erasmus Program and Internship Programs”. Upon these warnings, Hasan Ünsal, General Director of the Ministry of National Education, European Union and Foreign Relations, sent an official letter to the 81 provincial directors of national education and the central organization of the ministry.

According to the news of Sultan Uçar from Sözcü, General Manager Ünsal, who instructed that teachers and students at risk of asylum abroad should not be selected for EU programs, used the following statements in the official letter:

“Recently, some complaints have been received via e-mail to our General Directorate regarding mobility activities and internship programs within the scope of Erasmus+.

In addition, in the article received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, EU Presidency Turkish National Agency, especially in recent months, during the internship activities of vocational high school students in the program member countries (especially Germany, Austria and Czechia), students and teachers who left the program without informing the school administration and even did not return to our country. cases are reported.

The increase in such cases creates a negative situation in terms of the prestige of our country, the programs we carry out and our official passports. In this context, taking into account the issues stated in the relevant article, the selection processes of the participants who will be involved in any study visit and/or internship application to be made in the context of international funded projects, especially the Erasmus+ program, should be followed meticulously.

Every year, approximately 20 thousand students from Turkey go to EU countries with Erasmus. Students who are accepted from 18 countries in the 1st and 2nd groups such as Germany, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Norway are given a monthly pocket money of 600 Euros and a monthly pocket money of 450 Euros for 13 countries including Bulgaria, Croatia, Latvia. Students must stay in another country for a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 1 year for educational purposes and return to Turkey. In the last 15 years, 500 thousand students went abroad.
