Can you talk about your role in the new movie ‘Tale Castle: The Mysterious Guest’?
The movie takes place in Hatay, we had a shooting time of 3 weeks. The caves and museums there are very fascinating and that’s why we wanted to shoot in Hatay. They thought, “How can we interpret the fascinating places there in front of the camera, how can we transfer them magically to the children” and it turned out very well. The shooting areas there were very challenging but also beautiful. We shot in very strange locations. After all, ‘Tale Castle: The Mysterious Guest’ tells the events of a group of friends. Courage, adventure, friendship, love… All in one, that’s why it was such a movie.
Did you receive any training before going in front of the camera in the first movie of the series?
I did not receive any training, I received training in music, but I had never received training in acting before. We had acting coaches there, and I had acted in a few commercials before, other than that, I had no acting experience. I can say that I learned acting with a little camera, but I wish I had taken an education. I want to buy now.
Can you tell us about the contributions of the ‘Tale Castle’ series to you?
I was very excited when I got the offer. We were in the car, we almost had an accident. I screamed, I was so happy. First of all, the cinema medium is very different, it has nothing to do with YouTube, so I reached an audience in a very different medium. Because of the success of the movie, it was also broadcast on television and sold to digital platforms, so my awareness in different fields increased. Other than that, he has contributed a lot. There is a really big difference between the first movie and the second movie in terms of my acting. And experience of course… These are great experiences that I can use in my future acting.
You are 15 years old, you have two films, a series of works. You also sing. After you started posting videos on YouTube, you were discovered and got an acting offer, right?
It was like this; My first professional acting started with ‘Tale Castle’. After that, I acted in the musical ‘Alice’.
Where did you get it to start posting videos on YouTube?
I started publishing it as a game. There were baby videos on Youtube 4 years ago, I was 10 – 11 years old at that time, I shot two videos and that’s how I started. My friends were watching, they were commenting and I liked it very much. Then 100 people watched one of my videos back then. Me and my family were in shock. Then I thought I’d shoot another one and it reached millions. Actually, I started out very unrelated, but then my YouTube channel took a different turn as I progressed and took videos. I have been dealing with YouTube for 4 years and now I have close to 2 million followers.
You also have 444 thousand followers on Instagram. Did you have an enthusiasm to be an actor before or did you get excited after having so many followers?
there was. I always wanted to be an actor and I always expressed that, so somehow our paths crossed with acting.
You’re performing in a musical like ‘Alice’. How did the story of ‘Alice’ begin?
They discovered me on YouTube. serenay sarıkaya They were looking for a blonde, short, beautiful voice, who likes to sing, to play her little girl in the lead role. First I auditioned and I won, there was another audition, I entered it, I won that one too. Then I started ‘Alice’. Great job on ‘Alice’. Because it was a great musical with a great production, I am very happy to be there as well.
You are an 11th grader. Have you determined the branch you will study at the university?
I want to study cinema and television at Mimar Sinan University.
Don’t you get tired of being a student and working so many jobs?
It’s a bit difficult, obviously, but fortunately, Izmit is not far from Istanbul. When the filming takes place in places like Hatay, it’s already 3-4 weeks. Then we argue a bit with the school, but it’s not a problem for me.
You became very famous as a child. You have millions of followers. How does fame affect your life?
In general, there is not much difficulty, but sometimes there are people who want to take pictures outside, and of course I accept. It’s just that my friends are bored while waiting. Because when a person is taken, I immediately say “I think this girl is famous” and others come and I take pictures with 10-15 people. There is no problem for me, only my friends are bored. Other than that, when I go out at school, they always say “Oh, Ecrin Su Shepherd”, but now I’m used to it. Looks don’t bother me much.
Do you have a privileged position among your friends?
I have a lot of privileges with my brother and among my friends’ friends, but it doesn’t matter much since most of my friends are old friends before social media. But when my brother’s friends see it, my brother is cool among his friends for two weeks, but it doesn’t affect me negatively.
We have seen that those who have achieved great fame at a young age in Turkey and in the world experience psychological problems from time to time. There may be psychological problems caused by not living a childhood and taking on heavy burdens. You take the stage in a musical like ‘Alice’, you play the leading role in movies. What is the situation with you because you have so much responsibility at this age? Do you get expert support?
I don’t feel much pressure on me, but sometimes when I get nervous, I say “Mom, take me to the psychologist”. I say, but I never go. I didn’t need that kind of psychological support. Frankly, it didn’t shock me much because it had been going on for 4-5 years and it didn’t happen all of a sudden, but of course, sometimes I can say “off”, but nothing bad happens.
Are you living your childhood as you should?
Yes definitely.
Of course, this is not the case for everyone, but child celebrities may not get as much attention as they used to when they reach a certain age. Are you prepared for the possibility of encountering such a situation?
I think anything can happen in life. There will be an accident and you will lose everything, both financially and morally. Fame is like that. You can shine in a moment and go out in a moment, but for that you have to let go. In other words, the thing you call fame ends after you don’t constantly produce anything, but like Türkan Şoray, I don’t think it will ever be erased after your name is written in history. That’s why I don’t take any precautions. Because I don’t think it will happen to me. Of course, I’m sad, but I don’t get depressed.
You say “I will produce continuously”…
Of course, I quit these jobs after a certain age, but I think I will work hard until that age and hit the bottom of creativity and content production.
What is your ultimate goal? You will be an actor, what do you do after that you feel very successful?
Actually, I want to have a brand like foreign celebrities rather than acting. It could be a makeup brand, it could be a clothing brand. I already had my clothing brand, I want to open beauty salons, I have so many goals that I don’t know if a lifetime is enough, but I definitely want to have a job outside of the field of acting and singing. The chain can be a beauty salon or a brand, and I want to continue that way.
You want to turn to business too, do you?
Yes, I want to trade. Because I want people to be able to say, “We are very satisfied with this girl’s products, her trade is good, her products are good, and her brand is good.” I want it to be a brand that will stay even when I die.
You also sing, what are your works on that subject?
We sang 3 songs for ‘Tale Castle: Mysterious Guest’, one of which I sang together with Sinan Akçıl and the other solo. Apart from that, I have a song called ‘My Pink Diary’, which has been listened to more than 40 million times. I’m waiting for some time to pass in the field of singing. When I’m 17 – 18, when my voice is well established, I’ll start working harder, maybe even open a studio.
Do you also have a goal to go on stage and sing?
Yes. I want to be a singer since I was little. I want to continue singing as well as acting.
Do you have any training on this?
I studied solfeggio, violin and piano at the state conservatory for 4 years, then I had to quit when things got busy, but I also took piano training, that is, I have training in terms of music.
Do you have someone you take as an example?
Serenay Sarikaya… I am in love with Serenay Sarikaya. He’s definitely my role model. He also has a very beautiful voice, sings very well, his acting is excellent, he is a very humble and sweet person. I hope when I grow up I will remain sweet, humble and disciplined like him.
You met often during the work of ‘Alice’. What was the most important teaching you learned from Serenay Sarıkaya?
Definitely work discipline and energy. For him, work comes first. Even if he is unhappy, he never reflects on the cameras, so I take him as an example. Her energy is really perfect, people laugh when she is with her even when she is unhappy. I always see that energy that I have never seen in anyone else in Serenay sister and I tell her as well. He is a very high energy person.
