Death threat to British writer JK Rowling, who reacted to the attack on Salman Rushdie

British writer JK Rowling, who wrote the world-famous fantasy novel series Harry Potter, who reacted to the attack of Indian-born British writer Salman Rushdie with a knife during a conference in New York, USA on Friday, received death threats.

Rowling criticized Rushdie’s attack and posted on her social media account, “It’s terrible news. I feel so awful right now. Make sure he’s okay.”

According to the news of İHA, a Twitter user named “Meer Asif Asiz” responded to Rowling’s post, “Don’t worry, it’s your turn”. Rowling shared the threatening messages from the person on her social media account and said that the police would respond to these threats. “We have received a report of an online threat and officers are investigating,” the police said in a statement.

It was stated that Twitter user “Meer Asif Asiz” also published messages praising the attacker who stabbed Rushdie, and later removed the threatening message he sent to Rowling.

British author Rowling is best known for her 1997 Harry Potter book series. 57-year-old Rowling’s 7-series Harry Potter book is also among the most popular works worldwide as a movie series.

In a statement made by Warner Bros Discovery (WBD), the production company that filmed Rowling’s Harry Potter book series, the threats against the author were “strongly condemned” and added, “We stand with him and all writers who have boldly expressed their opinions. “WBD believes in freedom of expression, peaceful speech and supporting those who express their views in the public sphere.”
