China resumes exercises in Taiwan

12 days after the US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, another high-level delegation from the US went to Taiwan.

Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a delegation of 5 people led by US Massachusetts Senator Edward Markey arrived in Taiwan for a 2-day visit yesterday evening. The delegation, which started its contacts in the country, also met with Taiwan’s leader Tsai Ing-wen today.

RESPONSE FROM CHINA

Reacting harshly to the visit of the US delegation to Taiwan Chinesere-executed exercises in the Taiwan Strait.

It has been announced that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Eastern Operational Area Command has launched joint combat readiness and genuine combat exercises in the waters and airspace around Taiwan.

In the statement made by the Eastern Operations Area Command, it was emphasized that the command would take all necessary measures to maintain China’s national sovereignty and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

“CHINA WILL CONTINUE TO PREPARE FOR WAR”

Stating that this visit violates China’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, Chinese Defense Ministry Spokesperson Wu Qian said, “The PLA will continue its training and war preparations to stop any separatist attempts and foreign intervention that defend Taiwan’s independence. “It is an act of deterrence against the United States and Taiwan that undermines it,” he said.

Stating that they oppose the visit of the US delegation and that they will not tolerate any foreign intervention in the Taiwan issue, Qian said, “Any attempt to prevent the reunification of China is doomed to failure.”

“WE CALL US TO FOLLOW THE ONE CHINA PRINCIPLE”

In a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, it was stated that the visit of the US congressmen to Taiwan seriously violated the One China principle and sent false messages to the outside.

Pointing out that the One China principle constitutes the political basis of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin said, “China calls on the United States to abide by the One China principle and the three joint declarations between the two countries.”

In the statement made by the Chinese Embassy in Washington, it was stated that China opposes any official contact between the USA and Taiwan, and that the provocations of the USA will be responded to with harsh measures. “The United States, which is responsible for the current tension in the Taiwan Strait, must also bear the consequences of the congressmen’s visit,” Embassy spokesman Liu Pengyu shared on his social media account.

PELOSI’S VISIT TO TAIWAN CAUSED TENSION

Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, visited Taiwan on August 2, despite all warnings from Beijing as part of her Asian trip.

In response to the visit, the Chinese army held real ammunition exercises in and around the Taiwan Strait. The Chinese administration also decided to impose sanctions on Pelosi, and stopped the consultations between the defense ministries and armies of China and the United States.
