Belgium will collect a total of 3.1 billion euros in taxes from high-profit electricity producers and fossil fuel companies.

Belgian Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten stated on her social media account that due to the energy crisis, it was decided to receive crisis contributions from electricity producers and fossil fuel companies in the country.

Pointing out that 2.2 billion taxes will be collected from the excess profit of the electricity generation sector in the 18 months between January 2022 and June 2023, Van der Straeten stated that this application will be extended for another 6 months if high prices continue.

Pointing out that 900 million euros will be collected from gas and oil companies as a solidarity contribution, Van der Straeten said, “A total crisis contribution of 3.1 billion euros will be received from energy companies.” used the phrase.

Expressing that the energy bill assistance to be provided to households has been extended until March, thanks to the crisis contribution, Van der Straeten emphasized that an additional discount of 588 Euros will be provided in the country’s gas and electricity bills for the months of January, February and March.

Van der Straeten pointed out that the government will give a total of 980 euros to households this winter for their gas and electricity bills.

Pointing out that they will also make structural reforms in their energy bills, Van der Straeten informed that they will permanently reduce the VAT rate on electricity and gas to 6 percent.

The Belgian government had decided to provide 135 euros of natural gas and 61 euros per month for electricity per household in November and December. With the aid in question, a monthly energy contribution of 196 Euros would be given to households for 2 months.

With the final decision, this application was extended for 3 more months and increased to a total of 5 months.
