Apology from Mint for Trabzonspor money: Written by mistake

WALL – Mint, affiliated to the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, printed commemorative coins for Trabzonspor, which completed the Super League as champions last season. The commemorative coin, which went on sale on August 5, was presented in four different forms, gold plated over silver, silver, bronze and as a set. However, the name of the commemorative coin “Trabzonspor 8th Championship Commemorative Coin” caused controversy.

Mint’s counting the 2010-11 season, which ended with Fenerbahçe’s championship but Trabzonspor claiming to be champion due to the Match-fixing Case, among Trabzonspor’s championships, and printing a commemorative coin stating that the burgundy blues won the ‘8’ championship, rekindled the discussions.

Fenerbahçe Club and its executives were acquitted of all charges in the Match-fixing Case, which was retrial in the past months, and was acquitted by the Supreme Court. Trabzonspor Club, which is stated to have 7 championships on the official website of the Turkish Football Federation, also emphasized 8 championships after the Super League victory last season.

After the commemorative coin printed by the Mint, Fenerbahçe fans expressed their reactions on social media, and the issue quickly became one of the most talked about.

‘WRITTEN WRITTEN’

The General Directorate of Mint and Stamp Printing House, which issued a statement after the reactions, said, “In the commemorative money printed for the 2021-22 Super League champion Trabzonspor, the 8th championship was written on the certificate inadvertently, instead of the 7th championship. Necessary corrections were made immediately after this situation was noticed. We apologize to the football community, fans and the public, and submit it to your information.

After the correction, the expressions “Trabzonspor 8th Championship Commemorative Coin” were changed to “Trabzonspor, 2021-22 Season Super League Champion Commemorative Coin Set”. (NEWS CENTER)
