Musa Güzel (60), who returned to his hometown Gümüşhane after retiring from Istanbul Electric Tramway and Tunnel Enterprises (IETT), lost 200 thousand liras of his retirement bonus to phone scammers who introduced him as a bank employee and said they would pay back the file costs of the loan he had previously taken. Saying that he fell into a trap, Güzel said, “My 25 years of savings were gone in 1 hour. Everyone should be very careful.”

The person who called Güzel and introduced himself as a bank employee, said that they would pay back the file costs of the loans he used before with the credit card fee. Güzel gave his identity information to the person on the phone and dialed some desired numbers. In this way, the suspects, who seized his identity information and directed his phone, transferred 200 thousand liras of the 300 thousand liras in Güzel’s account to a bank and defrauded them. After hanging up the phone, Guzel became suspicious and called the bank where she had her account, and realized that she had been defrauded. Güzel, who immediately blocked his account so that the remaining money would not be withdrawn, went to the police and filed a complaint.

‘My savings are gone’
Describing her experiences, Güzel said, “A woman told me that she called me from the general directorate of the bank. I believed it because the end of the number was the bank number. She told me that I had taken a loan before and I verified it. I gave my identity information. Now we will return the points on your card to you. He said, ‘Confirm the incoming message.’ And I approved. After the approval, when he said to me ‘don’t enter internet banking until tomorrow’, I said, ‘I’ve been scammed’. All my dreams have collapsed. I am very aggrieved.
‘I fell into this trap unknowingly’
Güzel, who reproached his bank and said that everyone should be careful, said, “Why wasn’t I warned by the bank while the transaction was being made on my account for 1 hour? My 200 thousand lira was gone. I was going to build a house with this money. The bank called me the next day and said, ‘Mr. Musa, did you make this expenditure?’ He asks. I fell into this trap unknowingly. At least others should not fall,” he said.
