In Iran, a 22-year-old woman named Mahsa Amini, who fell into a coma after being detained by the morality police on the grounds that she allegedly did not obey the hijab rules, lost her life.
According to police, Amini was hospitalized “urgently” at the moral police office in Tehran on September 13 for suddenly suffering from a “heart condition”.
State television confirmed the news of Amini’s death, but did not provide details.
It was stated that Amini was taken “to be educated” about the headscarf and it deteriorated during her detention.
Iranian President Ibrahim Reisi had ordered an official investigation to Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi after Amini fell into a coma.
Reformist politician Mahmoud Sadeghi demanded that the matter be clarified.
It was written on social media that Amini was beaten and tortured by the morality police, so she fell into a coma. The headscarf requirement in the country was protested.
Police denied the allegations.
IranWire news site published the statements of Kiarash, who was with Amini during her detention.
According to Kiarash, while he was on the side of the highway with his sister, the morality police car stopped near them and detained Amini. He was told that his sister would be released after an hour of “training”.
Amini’s family said their daughter is a healthy woman and does not have any illness that could cause her to have a sudden heart problem.
The headscarf protests have been going on for several months in Iran, and the activists were refusing to wear the headscarf.
