US sale of F-16 to Turkey will be presented to Congress

While the next week was pointed out for the expected Congress decision to approve the sale of the F-16, it was stated that the approval status depends on Turkey, Sweden and Finland allowing NATO membership.


There was another new development regarding the sale of F-16s by the USA to Turkey.

Last year, US President Joe Biden gave the green light to the sale of F-16s between the two countries.

Biden stated that his positive opinion has not changed, but that he needs to get approval from Congress.

F-16 to Turkey, F-35 to Greece

According to the latest development, US government sources reported that the Joe Biden administration is preparing to receive Congressional approval for the sale of new F-16 fighter jets worth $20 billion to Turkey and the sale of new generation F-35 fighter jets to Greece.

Approval contingent on Finland and Sweden’s NATO membership

Officials speaking to the newspaper said that the approval of the Congress depends on Turkey’s approval of Finland and Sweden’s membership in NATO.

A decision is expected next week.

It was stated that the request for congressional approval will coincide with the visit of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to Washington next week.
