Russia As the war between Ukraine and Ukraine enters its eighth month, violent clashes continue. President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelenskyannounced that the city of Lyman in the Donetsk region, which was annexed by Russia, was again under the domination of Ukraine.
Making a statement on his social media account, Zelenski said, “As of 12.30, the city of Lyman was completely cleared of Russian invaders. Thank you to our defenders.”
RUSSIA ANNOUNCED IT WITHDRAWAL
Russia announced that it was withdrawing its troops from the city of Lyman in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine.
In a statement made by the Russian Ministry of Defense, it was reported that it was decided to withdraw 5,000 Russian soldiers from Lyman due to the risk of being surrounded by the Ukrainian army. Spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Defense Igor Konashenkov stated that the troops were withdrawn to more advantageous lines.
After Russia captured the city of Lyman in late May, it had turned the city into an important logistics center for troop deployment and ammunition supply.
The city is also strategically important as an important railway hub connecting the Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkov regions in eastern and northeastern Ukraine. Ukraine’s reassertion of control of Lyman has been described as “one of Russia’s worst military defeats” since the invasion began on February 24.
