Trying to get rid of the effect of the pandemic, the world is also struggling with the chip crisis and supply chain problems. We started to see the first effects of this at the end of this summer. Brands started to enter the global market with empty packages of their vehicles. Moreover, there was a decrease in the number of sales due to the high dollar exchange rate and inflation in our country. However, the amount of excise duty taken from automobiles increased.
Amount of SCT taken from automobile: 205 thousand TL per vehicle
According to the news of Emre Özpeynirci and Erol Şahin, the number of cars sold in Turkey has decreased by 6.45 percent when the data of the last 7 months are considered. However, the amount of excise duty taken from automobiles increased. In fact, we see that it doubled with a rate of 101.38 percent.

The table above compares the first 7 months of last year with this year. In the period based on 2021, it is seen that the state received an average of 77 thousand 612 TL SCT per automobile. In the same period of this year, although there was a 6.45 percent decrease in sales, the amount of SCT collected from automobiles increased 1.5 times on a monthly basis and more than doubled in total.
In fact, when we look at the exact numbers, we see that 461 thousand 776 cars were sold in the first 7 months of 2021 and a total of 35 billion 839 million TL SCT was collected from these vehicles. In the first 7 months of 2022, 432 thousand 10 cars were sold, while the amount of SCT collected increased to 72 billion 175 million 325 thousand TL.
In addition, when we look only at the months of July, we can clearly see that in 2021, the state received SCT of 92 thousand 783 TL per vehicle, and this amount increased to 205 thousand 603 TL in the same month of 2022.
In addition, it should be noted that another remarkable data has been shared. According to the news, it is said that the SCT taken from the automotive sector has reached a share of 38 percent in all SCT revenues of the state, and its share in all taxes has risen to a record 6.08 percent.
In other words, we can say that Turkey meets 6.08 percent of its total tax revenue only with the SCT amount taken from automobiles. Moreover, this does not include VAT and other additional taxes. Therefore, a large part of the money entering the cash register comes from the automotive sector.
