Theater was discussed in the historical fabric of Rahmi Koç Museum last night. The masters, young actors and theater lovers who have worked for the theater came together for the 26th Istanbul Theater Festival organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV).
The most beautiful innovation in the festival, which will be held between October 25-November 26 with the slogan “Theatre in Its Place”, was shaped by the curatorial structure. Especially when Işıl Kasapoğlu was the curator, it was inevitable that the program would be very good. Kasapoğlu is one of the best directors of our country. Every play directed by the master director who founded “Semaver Kumpanya” many years ago left its mark on that season.
Again, the director’s wide and creative perspective, who has signed the play “Amadeus”, which has been talked about a lot in recent years and staged at the sold-out, also heralds what kind of plays we will watch at the festival. I wrote in an interview with Kasapoğlu in April: “There are some games that are hard to say about. There are some directors that when they start to tell, the pages are not enough”
Let’s put a comma here for Kasapoğlu and talk about the surprises of the festival. This year Ali Poyrazoğlu received the Honorary Award, which was kept secret at the beginning of the meeting.
In addition to its 60th year of art, Poyrazoğlu is also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the theater bearing his name. In his award speech, “Art is man’s best, closest, and never give up friend. Art is my friend. Renewing us, enabling us to reevaluate the world every day and to look at ourselves from a different perspective; Reading, writing, composing, playing, all branches of art are our closest friends,” said Poyrazoğlu, and was happy.
SENSOY AND MIDDLE PLAYERS
I could not get an answer to the question of when Ortaoyuncular will return to the stage and when the curtains of Ses Theater will open, which I have been waiting for a long time. This was the most beautiful surprise of the festival: In memory of Ferhan Şensoy, the master of masters; The theater will open the curtain with “They Shoot The Kings Too”. This musical comedy, a historical parody that Şensoy made references to the present day with his unique humor, quick wit and outspoken style, was staged continuously throughout the first half of the 1980s and had a great impact throughout the country. Volkan M. Sarıöz is in the director’s chair of the play, which will be staged at Ses Theater on November 11 and 12.
Within the scope of the festival, 15 new plays from Turkey will meet the audience for the first time. The program also includes two shows that will be specially designed and staged for the festival. Six productions from France, England, Spain, Italy and Greece are on stage and three are on the screen, saying “hello” to theatergoers…

While the 400th anniversary of Molière’s birth will be celebrated with productions both from abroad and in our country, the 100th anniversary of Pasolini, a cinema genius, will be commemorated with a special screening. Festival tickets will be on sale on Friday, September 16 at 10.30 on passo.com.tr and at the İKSV main box office. As part of the Eczacıbaşı Young Ticket project, a certain number of student tickets will be on sale for 10 TL.

Okan Bayülgen is the guest of the Istanbul Theater Festival for the first time with Richard, who wrote, directed and played the leading role.
Speaking at the festival meeting, Bayülgen said, “Shakespeare’s historical tragedy III. An adaptation of Richard, a view from this century, we will see in this adaptation. It will be both a crowded cast and the premiere at Zorlu PSM on November 17 in the big hall. It is a very exciting job,” he says.
