‘Nuclear weapons’ statement from Medvedev: We will protect the regions that joined Russia

WALL – Former Russian President and current Security Council Vice-President Dmitri Medvedev said that the announced referendums will be held in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region, Kherson and Zaporizhia, and that “there is no turning back”.

“Referendums will take place and the Donbas republics and other regions will be included in Russia,” Medvedev said. “The security of all countries joining Russia will be strengthened by the Russian Armed Forces,” he said.

Medvedev stated that Russia is ready to defend the regions that joined it in every sense, including strategic nuclear weapons, and said, “The West and all NATO countries in general need to understand that Russia has chosen its own path.”

It has been announced that a referendum will be held on September 23 in the Donetsk and Luhansk administrations and the cities of Kherson and Zaporizhia in eastern Ukraine to join Russia. Declaring that he supports the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk, Russian President Putin declared “partial military mobilization” yesterday.
