The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) announced the statistics of established and closed companies for the period of December 2022 and last year.
Accordingly, the number of companies established in December last year compared to the previous month increased by 14.2 percent, the number of cooperatives increased by 12.8% and the number of real person commercial enterprises increased by 50.2%. In the same period, the number of closed companies increased by 177.3 percent, the number of cooperatives increased by 218.8 percent and the number of real person commercial enterprises increased by 41.3 percent.
Compared to the same month of the previous year, in December last year, the number of companies established increased by 53.8 percent, the number of cooperatives increased by 75.6 percent and the number of real person commercial enterprises increased by 12.7 percent. In this period, the number of closed companies increased by 20.1 percent, the number of cooperatives increased by 26.8 percent, and the number of real person commercial enterprises increased by 12.3 percent.
35.9 PERCENT OF COMPANIES AND COOPERATIVES ESTABLISHED IN ISTANBUL
Of the 15,264 companies and cooperatives established in the aforementioned month, 84.9 percent were limited liability companies, 13.6 percent joint stock companies, and 1.5 percent cooperatives. 35.9 percent of companies and cooperatives were established in Istanbul, 9.9 percent in Ankara and 6.2 percent in Antalya.
In December 2022, the company was established in all provinces. Of the companies and cooperatives established in the same month, 4,990 were in the trade, 2,286 in the manufacturing and 2,144 in the construction sector. 1318 of the established real person commercial enterprises started to operate in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, 833 in construction and 408 in manufacturing sector. It was recorded that 1559 of the companies and cooperatives that were closed last month were in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, 713 were in the construction sector and 631 were in the manufacturing sector.
It was determined that 1381 of the real person commercial enterprises closed in this period were operating in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, 518 in construction and 370 in manufacturing sector. In December 2022, 230 cooperatives were established. 155 of these started as housing construction, 42 as business cooperatives, and 17 as agricultural development cooperatives.
COMPANIES WITH FOREIGN JOINT CAPITAL
Out of the 1539 foreign joint venture companies established last month, 155 of them started their operations with Russia and 92 with Iran.
It was observed that 165 of the foreign joint-capital companies that started their business were operating in the status of joint stock companies and 1374 of them were limited liability companies.

According to official data, a total of 1 million 400 thousand people in the country were put on trial because they could not pay their debts to banks at the end of the default period. The number of people who were taken to enforcement proceedings until the end of November 2022, but could not pay their debts, increased to 3 million 931 thousand 298. In the first week of 2023, the debt of citizens who borrowed from banks to banks and financing companies increased by 15.1 billion liras to 1 trillion 589 billion liras.
