I am of the opinion that the time has come for the European Political community to address the problems on our continent and to resolve common problems. I expressed these views at the summit and in the bilateral meeting. At the summit, I observed that the general opinion was in this direction. Our country has a vital importance in overcoming the fundamental problems such as security, defense, migration, terrorism, health and supply chains. Turkey is irreplaceable in overcoming the challenges facing the EU. I saw that this truth began to be accepted by our European friends as well. I underlined that the obstacles put in front of Turkey are not fair, and that this also harms the interests of the European Union.

We believe that more visionary and strategic decisions should be taken in this regard. We expect the EU to advance Turkey’s accession perspective, without surrendering to the interests and ambitions of some countries. Recent developments show that Turkey is a key country for unity and Europe. This issue was also delivered by our interlocutors at the summit. In particular, the mediator role of our country in the Russian-Ukrainian war is appreciated. From the first day of the war, we made great efforts to stop the bloodshed and to prevent deaths and destruction. We have brought to the attention of our interlocutors at every opportunity that there will be no losers in a just peace. Despite all the difficulties, we describe the opening of the grain corridor and the exchange of artifacts as an important diplomatic success. So far, over 6 million tons of grain and food products have been shipped to world markets. In the meantime, we will try to take the fertilizer of Russia and send it to the countries in need via Turkey. It is increasingly understood that Turkey can be in a position where both countries can talk to both sides and trust. In our contacts today, many European leaders talked about Turkey’s moves. Although unacceptable developments on the ground make our job difficult, we continue our efforts with the belief that even the worst peace is better than war.
“TURKEY HAS NO EYE ON ANY COUNTRY’S SOIL”
And yet, we see that some member countries of the union are escalating tensions instead of good neighborly relations with Turkey. Here, I would like to underline the following point; Turkey has no eyes for the sovereignty, land, rights and laws of any country. We are only fighting to protect the interests of our country and the Turkish Cypriots. We don’t want tension with anyone or any of our neighbors. We have repeatedly stated that we want to solve the Eastern Mediterranean and Aegean problems within the framework of international law. I expect the EU to invite our interlocutors to dialogue on a bilateral basis, instead of supporting unjust and unlawful tensions, under the solidarity of unity. For a permanent solution, the facts on the island of Cyprus need to be accepted. We will continue to take our steps in the light of these truths. I wish our meetings to be fruitful. I would like to state that we, as Turkey, are ready for dialogue in order to improve our relations with European countries and to advance our membership process.
