According to the statement made by the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications, the latest developments regarding the Russia-Ukraine war were evaluated at the meeting.

During the meeting, President Erdoğan expressed his satisfaction with the successful conclusion of the Russia-Ukraine prisoner exchange, on which they have been working for a long time, and the functioning of the Istanbul Agreement, which they developed with the support of the United Nations.

Stating that the extension of the mechanism, which will expire in November, is a common interest, President Erdoğan stated that they continue to work on the uninterrupted export of Russian fertilizers and grain products.

President Erdoğan said that steps to reduce tensions are needed to pave the way for more positive developments, and that Russia is expected to take steps to facilitate this process, especially the issue of the accession of some regions in Ukraine to Russia.

Asking Russian President Putin to give the negotiations another chance, President Erdoğan noted that they are ready to play a facilitating role in this process.

“Putin told Erdogan that the grain agreement must be fulfilled, including removing barriers to Russian food and fertilizer supplies,” the Kremlin said in a statement regarding the meeting.
