NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said: “If we see this kind of nuclear rhetoric from (Russian President Vladimir) Putin over and over again, we will need to take it seriously. Therefore, we convey the clear message that this will have serious consequences for Russia and that nuclear war should never happen. ” said.
Stoltenberg gave a speech at the meeting of the Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament.
Stating that NATO has two missions regarding the war in Ukraine, Stoltenberg stated that one is to support Ukraine and the other is to prevent the escalation of the conflict.
Stoltenberg reminded that he held a meeting with the National Armament Directors of the member countries this morning and discussed the issues of increasing production in the defense industry and filling the stocks of the allies in cooperation with the European Union.
Pointing out that more aid should be provided to Ukraine by producing more, Stoltenberg said, “The first message is that we must continue to support Ukraine. The other message is that we must prevent the escalation of the war.” said.
Emphasizing that Russia has escalated the conflict in recent days with “fake referendums, nuclear fraud, mobilization of the armed forces”, Stoltenberg continued as follows:
“Our message is that any use of nuclear weapons is absolutely unacceptable. It completely changes the nature of the conflict. Russia should know that nuclear war cannot be won and should never be fought.”
