MELİSA VARDAL – Spanish singer and composer Buika is meeting with her fans in Turkey as part of the Beyoğlu Cultural Road Festival, which is organized for the third time as part of the Turkish Cultural Road Festivals. The successful artist, known for blending flamenco with jazz, will be at AKM Türk Telekom Opera Hall this evening. Saying that she sees Turks as her family, Buika told Milliyet about her deep passion for music and her feelings about our country.
– You are known as the voice of “Love and passion” in Turkey; How did this passion first flare up?
The truth is that music was my destiny, I did not look for it, in fact, I did not even know that I could sing. But I felt that I had to overcome all obstacles and I did. The point I’ve come to today is like my dreams come true, it’s like I’m living a dream. One day they gave me the opportunity to sing and I took that opportunity. I sang in front of my people and they embraced me forever.
– Can you elaborate on this passion for us a little more? Your young audience will also take part in AKM this evening and they will wonder where you got your inspiration from…
Music is a high level passion for me. My inspiration comes from life itself. This is what my soul needs. My mind’s need to express my mood swings, as well as the sensory translation of the world I perceive… Really, these are all indescribable emotions, I can’t say enough to describe it. That’s why I have compositions.
– You gave concerts in Turkey before, do you have a memorable moment?
The truth is that we have established a long-standing bond of love with the beloved Turkish people. I have only words of respect and love in my mind about this wonderful country. Thank you all for your warmth and kindness. After all these years, I feel that I have a Turkish family. And if I have to underline one thing, it is this; no matter what happens, no matter what I live in Turkey, it always ends with a smile. Thank you a thousand times for the joy of your country, your land and the Turkish people.
– Do you have a message?
I send lots of love from my heart to everyone in Turkey’s cities, towns and villages. I respect and admire the culture of your land. May your light never go out, illuminate the whole world.
