Germany’s sales of weapons and military equipment in 2022 reached the second largest export figure in the country’s history, after the record in 2021.
The war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on for 10 months.
During the war, in which the Russian army is increasing its violence day by day, heavy losses are experienced in both countries.
Western countries and the USA, which declared that they are with Ukraine, continue to send weapons.
Germany is among the countries that have sent the most weapons to Ukraine after the USA since the beginning of the war.
Arms exports exceeded 8 billion euros
Germany’s arms and military equipment exports to Ukraine this year amounted to about 8.35 billion euros with the help of weapons.
According to the news of the German News Agency (DPA), the German Ministry of Economy, responding to the question proposal of the Left Party, announced that the government approved the sale of weapons and military equipment worth 8.35 billion euros as of 22 December this year.
The second largest export figure in the country’s history
Thus, Germany’s arms and military equipment sales in 2022 reached the second largest export figure in the country’s history, after a record 9.35 billion euros in 2021.
Most sales to Ukraine
In the response, it was noted that the country to which Germany sold the most weapons and military equipment this year was Ukraine, which is at war with Russia.
Berlin approved the sale of weapons and equipment worth 2.24 billion euros to Kiev.
The German government’s export permits to Ukraine also include Gepard-type anti-aircraft tanks, ammunition, PzH howitzers, stinger missiles, grenades, helmets and vehicles.
Majority of sales outside Ukraine is NATO country
It was also noteworthy that the German government approved the sale of weapons and military equipment worth approximately 6 billion euros, mostly to NATO countries, excluding Ukraine.
Netherlands followed with 1.83 billion euros, followed by the USA with 864 million euros, the UK with 453 million euros and Hungary with 249.2 million euros.
Hungary was followed by Australia with 196.1 million euros, Singapore with 175.1 million euros and South Korea with 166.5 million euros.
The annual average of the country’s exports was 6.85 billion euros in the last 5 years.
