Flash… Giant brand Domino’s declared bankruptcy

According to the news of Sputnik, Italian branches of Domino’s Pizza, which could not survive the effects of the epidemic, were closed due to bankruptcy.

Since 2015, when it opened its first branch in Italy, Domino’s has struggled to attract customers in what is known as the ‘homeland of pizza’.

The company, which managed 23 Domino’s restaurants in Italy in 2020, reflected in its bankruptcy filing documents that it managed 6 other restaurants through sub-branches. For comparison, there are 1,200 Domino’s restaurants in England. In Turkey, the number of Domino’s Pizza restaurants is 530.

“OPENING DOMINO’S IN ITALY IS LIKE SELLING PROFITS IN THE NORTH POLE”

Some social media users welcomed the decision of the fast food chain to leave Italy.

A Twitter user named Alicia Smith likened the idea of opening a Domino’s restaurant in Italy to ‘selling profits in the Arctic’.

Domino’s operating company in Italy, EPizza SpA, first filed for bankruptcy in early April after being hit by coronavirus restrictions.

“LOCAL RESTAURANTS USING DELIVERY APPLICATIONS INCREASED COMPETITION”

The company also admitted that they are facing increasing competition as local restaurants use delivery apps.

As part of the bankruptcy process, the firm receives 90 days of protection from its creditors, but the deadline expired last month. While the Italian company has shrunk its business capacity since 2020, it also ended its delivery service as of July.
