As the war between Ukraine and Russia continued, the situation of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, located on the front line, became more and more critical. Because if the power plant is hit directly, it is feared that a disaster that will affect the whole world will occur.
Showing the possible disaster preparations to the journalists in Zaporizhia, the Kyiv administration announced that it was preparing for the “worst” and that it was conducting a drill against the possibility of a leak at the power plant. American ‘ABC News’ news website spoke with an engineer working at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The plant worker, who did not want to be named, said that he feared the safety of not only his family, but the whole world, and that he continued to work for the safe operation of the plant. Ukrainian engineers at the power plant are forced to work under the supervision of Russian soldiers.
DISASTER SCENARIO
On the other hand, while the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that they could close the nuclear power plant, Ukraine announced that this would create a disaster risk. While it is stated that Russia may close two units of the power plant as a result of “negative developments” in the region, it is stated that one of these developments is the counterattack launched by Ukraine on the southern front. While it is stated that Russia carries out “nuclear blackmail” in this way, Energoatom points out that a “radiation disaster scenario” may occur if the power plant is shut down.
The Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant was captured by the Russians on March 4. Air strikes are taking place around the plant, which is currently under the control of the Russian army. Ukraine and Russia blame each other for these attacks.
AWARD FROM PUTIN TO MOTHERS WITH MANY CHILDREN!
Russian President Vladimir Putin revived the ‘heroic mother’ award for the increase of the Russian population. The award, which was last used in the Soviet era and given to mothers with more than 10 children, is being reintroduced in Russia. Mothers who gave birth to their 10th child will be awarded 1 million Ruble (Approximately 300 thousand TL) if all of these children survive.
IS THE WEST’S stance weakening?
While heavy sanctions against Russia continue in the diplomatic arena, it is claimed that diplomats from Africa, the Middle East, South America and Asia have taken a more abstaining stance recently. According to the news quoted by Euronews Turkish, International Crisis Group UN Director Richard Gowan said, “The longer the war dragged on, the harder it was to find meaningful ways to punish Russia.” Diplomats state that Western countries, afraid of finding insufficient support against Russia with the increase in abstention votes in the UN, did not even put some measures to the vote.
