Ceiling price from EU to Russian gas

Ceiling price from EU to Russian gas

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Union (EU) Commission, said that they will propose a ceiling price for Russian gas. “We must reduce the revenues that finance Putin’s terrible war in Ukraine,” he said, noting that Russia is actively manipulating the gas market.

Von der Leyen, who also made a statement regarding the saving measures to be taken in the field of energy within the Union, said, “We will propose a ceiling on the revenues of companies that produce electricity at low cost. We will propose a target to reduce consumption when electricity is used most intensively.”

WARNING FROM PUTIN

Before this announcement, Russian President Vladimir Putin had stated that they would cut gas and oil supplies to countries that apply a ‘ceiling price’.

Stating that they do not accept the accusations that Russia uses energy as a weapon, Putin said, “This is complete nonsense. We ship natural gas in line with the demand we receive. If you give me the turbine, we’ll get Nord Stream up and running tomorrow. But they do not,” he said.

The EU Energy Ministry will hold an emergency meeting on Friday to discuss the commission’s recommendations.
