100 tonnes of dead fish recovered from Poland’s Oder River

It has been reported that laboratories abroad have been consulted to solve the mystery of mass fish deaths in Poland’s Oder River. Polish firefighters announced that they have removed about 100 tons of dead fish so far.

“We’ve never had an operation this big on a river before,” said Monika Nowakowska-Drynda of the Polish Fire Service’s Press Office. After the ecological disaster that caused a great reaction in the country, more than 500 firefighters, boats and drones continue to work to clean the Oder River. It has not yet been determined what caused the death of the fish.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said last week that “a large amount of chemical waste” was deliberately dumped into the Oder River, causing an environmental disaster.

Stating that it will take years for the river ecosystem to recover, Prime Minister Morawiecki promised to the public that he would hold those responsible accountable. “A large amount of chemical waste was deliberately dumped into the Oder River. We will not let this matter go. We will not rest until the criminals are severely punished,” Morawiecki said.
